Is Spotify down? How to check if the app is offline

SPOTIFY crashed on iOS today, leaving millions of music fans unable to open the app on their iPhones.

The world’s biggest music streaming site first began experiencing issues this morning at around 11:32am, according to Down Detector.

Users reported issues with both music streaming and log ins on iOS browsers, while the  Spotify web player and Spotify Android app have been unaffected.

Is Spotify down?

Spotify said they were investigating an issue preventing some of its users from accessing the music streaming app.

It appears the downtime concerns iOS users, resulting in the app crashing whenever it is loaded up on an Apple technology.

Tests on Android and desktop suggest the error is not affecting people trying to listen to music via these two platforms.

The Swedish firm acknowledged the outage just before midday, tweeting: “Something’s out of tune.

“We’re currently investigating, and we’ll keep you posted here!”

As of 1pm, two hours after the service went down, the app seemed to be working as normal.

The Spotify Status Twitter account said: “Good news! Everything is good to go and looking happy. Still having issues? Give @SpotifyCares a tweet.”

Are any other apps down?

TikTok, Waze, Pinterest, and Tinder are also among a number of apps experiencing issues on iOS, according to users.

Early reports suggested it could be linked to Facebook, which is currently having developer problems which some apps use to manage logins.

Facebook have since confirmed that the crash was caused by an issue with its iOS software developer kit (SDK) that is embedded in the Spotify app.

“We are aware and investigating an increase in errors on the iOS SDK (software development kit) which is causing some apps to crash,” Facebook said.

It seems some of the affected apps are able to work when Wifi is switched off.

Here’s a list of apps that reported issues around the same time today:

  • TikTok
  • Spotify
  • Pinterest
  • Tinder
  • Viber
  • Waze
  • Call of Duty
  • Facebook
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • World of Tanks
  • Jurassic World Alive
  • Mail
  • Fitbit
  • My Fitness Pal
  • Deliveroo
  • Soundcloud

How do I check if the apps are offline?

Users reported issues with both music streaming and log ins on the iOS app.

However, the Spotify web player and Spotify Android app both appear to be working as usual.

Turning off the iPhone’s mobile data and WiFi allows the user to open the Spotify app in offline mode.

The user can switch WiFi on again to access Spotify’s online features.

Alternatively, to continue listening to music while the app is down, Spotify users can use the open.spotify.com website on their iPhones.
