Officials can scan it from three metres away to tell if a person has been jabbed, and the date and results of all Covid tests.

Department of Health chiefs are in talks with Louis-James Davis, 32, of Manchester-based VST Enterprises.

“There’s the added advantage that the VCode is much more secure than the QR code. It’s also unhackable and tamper proof. And, unlike a paper certificate, it cannot be forged.”

VCode is the next generation of code scanning technology, with an infinite range of capabilities from identification and facial recognition to ticketing and asset tracking.

The distinctive code is devised in a way that there are enough to produce 300 million for every person on Earth.
